The PIA Doctoral Network recently gathered in Alicante, Spain, for a week of scientific exchange, project evaluation, and advanced training opportunities. The events brought together doctoral candidates, supervisors, industrial partners, and project stakeholders, reinforcing the network’s commitment to fostering excellence in photocatalysis research.

A key milestone of the week was the Mid-Term Meeting, hosted by the University of Alicante on 23 September 2026. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the progress achieved during the first half of the project and to discuss future scientific, training, and dissemination activities. During the session, representatives from all partner organisations presented their contributions to the network, while the doctoral candidates showcased the advances made in their individual research projects. The programme also included presentations from the Project Officer and the Project Coordinator, as well as dedicated discussion sessions focused on project implementation.

The meeting highlighted the significant achievements accomplished by the consortium to date and encouraged valuable exchanges between academic and industrial partners. It also offered the doctoral candidates the opportunity to receive feedback on their research progress and discuss future directions.

In addition to the Mid-Term Meeting, the doctoral candidates actively participated in the PHOTOCAT26 Conference, one of the leading international events in the field of photocatalysis. Attendance at the conference enabled them to engage with the wider scientific community, present and discuss their research, learn about the latest developments in photocatalytic technologies, and establish new professional connections with researchers and industry representatives from around the world.

The combination of the Mid-Term Meeting and participation in PHOTOCAT26 provided an excellent environment for scientific learning, networking, and collaboration. These activities reflect the core objectives of the PIA Doctoral Network: promoting cutting-edge research, strengthening academia-industry cooperation, and equipping the next generation of researchers with the skills and experience required to address future challenges in sustainable chemical manufacturing.

The consortium would like to thank the University of Alicante for hosting these activities and all participants for their valuable contributions to a highly productive and successful week in Alicante.
